Helen E. Woods

Helen E. Woods, 90, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at her home.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Don Combs will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Helen was born on August 14, 1931, in Illinois, the daughter of Harold and LaVera Meyer Harfst. She married Harold E. Woods Jr. on May 19, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Muscatine.

Helen worked for Ring King, Charles Mull, and then Carver Michaels. She retired from the City of Muscatine, Greenwood Cemetery. Helen was also a seamstress. She enjoyed word searches, to dance, and bowling. Helen bowled on Wednesday nights on the ladies bowling league. She was a member of the Women of the Moose. Helen and her husband spearheaded the reunion group for the Company C. National Guard and Helen was the historian.

She is survived by her children, Tony Woods and wife, Karen, of Muscatine, Randy Woods and wife, Marjie, of St. Louis, Missouri, Doug Woods of Aledo, Illinois, Kathy Havemann and husband, Chuck, of Muscatine, Barb Heath and husband, Al, of Muscatine, and Gloria Willard and husband, David, of Muscatine; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberlie, Andy, Steve, Jessica, Alison, Amy, Cindy, Troy, Shane, Jordan, Jacob, Taylor, Ryne, Aubrey, and Shelby; 26 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; her siblings, Bill Harfst and wife, Jeannie, of Keithsburg, Illinois, and Clara Mae (Susie) Murphy and her husband, Don, of Kewanee, Illinois; sister-in-law, Mary Harfst; many nieces and nephews; and a godson, Rodger Strong.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2019; one granddaughter, Nicole Brink; one brother, Harold (Bud); and one sister, Betty.
