Much of South Dakota winter wheat rated fair
About half of South Dakota’s winter wheat crop started 2022 in fair shape.
The USDA says 49% of the crop is called fair, an increase of 15% from the end of November 2021, with 38% rated good to excellent, up 2%, and 13% in poor to very poor condition, down 14%.
Like many other parts of the Plains, South Dakota is experiencing drought conditions, lowering soil moisture levels.
The USDA’s next state update is out on the 24th.
