Indiana winter wheat rating declines

Most of Indiana had a warmer and wetter than normal December.

The USDA says statewide average temperatures were 9.5 degrees above normal and average rainfall was almost an inch more than usual, which limited fieldwork in parts of the state.

64% of Indiana’s winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, down 4% from the last update in late November due to that wetter than normal weather.

Most of the state’s livestock is in good shape thanks to those temperatures, but conditions are muddy in some areas.

The USDA’s next state update is out later this month.
