Global Dairy Trade index up Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index moved back up slightly after making its first decline in five months right before Christmas.

The overall index rose three-tenths of a percent to an average price of $4,247 dollars per metric ton, or $1.92 per pound.

The biggest price gainer was Cheddar cheese, rising 4.9% to $5,487 a ton or $2.48 per pound.

Butter prices were up point-3 percent to $5,868 a ton or $2.66 per pound.

Butter milk powder prices rose 1% to $3,654 a ton or $1.65 per pound.

Skim milk powder was also up 1% settling at $3,773 a ton or $1.71 per pound.

Whole milk powder held steady at $3,866 a ton or $1.75 per pound.

Anhydrous Milk Fat prices fell seven-tenths of a percent to $6,668 per ton or $3.02 per pound.

Lactose and sweet whey powder products were not offered in Tuesday’s GDT market.
