December warm, wet for most of Arkansas

Most of Arkansas was covered by warm, wet weather in December.

The USDA says statewide temperatures averaged more than 60 degrees last month and average rainfall was nearly five inches, causing flooding in some areas and leaving a significant portion of the state with surplus soil moisture.

Still, some producers were able to do fieldwork ahead of row crop planting.

Spring calving is expected to get underway in the next couple of weeks.

The USDA’s next state update is out later this month.
