Embracing carbon market programs

Interest in carbon and carbon market programs has risen exponentially in 2021.

David Widmar, co-founder of Agricultural Economics Insights says it was like a switch was flipped.

“The administration is thinking about this,” he says.  “And there are a lot of companies who are developing products and tools and technologies that might make this a little more viable for carbon markets to emerge.”

He tells Brownfield – he’s seen a sentiment change among farmers.  “From individual perspective or a private company perspective or even a government policy perspective, and could play a front-seat role in providing solutions to that,” he says.  “I think producers are curious and interested to learn how things that they do on their operation might qualify for some of these programs, but also might be part of that solution.”
