USDA ERS sees record corn use in 2021/22

The USDA’s Economic Research Service is projecting a second consecutive marketing year with record corn use.

In the monthly Feed Outlook report, the ERS sees total corn use at 14.83 billion bushels, which would be up 12 million from the previous marketing year.

That’s with year-to-year increases in food, seed, and industrial use, including corn for ethanol production, and higher livestock feed demand, which are expected to cancel out a slowdown in export demand.

The next set of numbers from the ERS and the updated supply and demand projections are both out in mid-January.

The current marketing year for corn runs through the end of August, 2022.
