Milk production lower for second straight month

Monthly milk production compared to a year ago fell slightly for a second consecutive month during November.

USDA says total production of 17.3 billion pounds was about a tenth of a percent lower than November 2020.

Production per cow averaged 1,940 pounds, three pounds above the same period a year ago.

The number of milk cows on farms in the 24 leading dairy states was down 24,000 head at 8.89 million.
