Iowa Ag Secretary calls rising input costs a top concern going into 2022

Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture points to rising input costs as a top concern going into 2022.

Mike Naig says he’s also worried about availability.

“And certainly fertilizer tops that list when you’re talking about prices that are two and three times where they were a year ago, that is a significant financial pressure on our growers. So we’re watching that very closely.”

He tells Brownfield more can be done at the state and federal level to ensure farmers have access to the tools necessary to grow a crop.

“There’s a lot of material, a lot of seed, fertilizer, and equipment that need to arrive at the farm next spring so we can get things in the ground. But nationally, what’s going on with the supply chain, inflation, and all those types of things.”

Naig says those are all factors in the price of ag inputs.
