Temps, weather vary north-south across the Heartland

For the remainder of Friday into Saturday, a stalled frontal boundary across the mid-South will provide the focus for locally heavy showers and thunderstorms in areas affected by historically severe tornado activity just a week ago.

Storm-total rainfall could reach 1 to 2 inches or more. During the weekend and early next week, similar rainfall totals should occur in the Gulf Coast region and along the southern Atlantic Coast. In contrast, little or no rain will fall during the next 5 days from southern California to the central and southern Great Plains.

Farther north, however, periods of light snow may affect the North, while another slow-moving Pacific storm will deliver drought-easing precipitation as far south as northern and central California.
