Senator expects farm bill discussions to pick up soon

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio says he expects farm bill discussions to pick up in 2022.

“In the first of the year we’re going to sit down and talk about what we’re hearing and what we expect for the farm bill,” he says.

He says farmers and agricultural organizations are critical to the process.

“We update the farm bill working with ag groups and it makes us a more prosperous country,” he says.

Brown says he plans to talk with Senate Ag Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow about the importance of reauthorizing the farm bill as close to five years as possible.

“We do a farm bill every five years, but it always slips to year six and seven. I think things are changing so rapidly in our country I’m going to urge her to stay on this cycle of every five years,” he says.

Brown, a democrat, is a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
