Senators to introduce Defend the Blend companion bill

Legislation that would stop the EPA from retroactively lowering biofuel blending requirements is making headway in Washington.  The House introduced the Defend the Blend Act on November 23rd, where it’s been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.  Now, the Senate is reportedly introducing a bipartisan companion bill today backed by Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst of Iowa, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois.

The House bill language is short and to the point. It says the Administrator of the EPA may not reduce any applicable volume determined under the Clean Air Act or any renewable fuel obligation or applicable percentage determined that has already been finalized for any calendar year.

The bipartisan House bill has support from Iowa’s Ashley Hinson, Illinois Representative Rodney Davis, Angie Craig from Minnesota, and Ron Kind from Wisconsin.
