Supply chain and sustainability among Minnesota Farm Bureau priorities

Minnesota Farm Bureau identified the supply chain and sustainability as priority issues during last month’s annual meeting.

President Dan Glessing, a dairy farmer from Waverly, tells Brownfield the pandemic exposed weaknesses that need to be addressed.

“As far as empty shelves in stores, and now it’s more (about) getting parts for us to keep operating our farms and ranches.”

He says the organization wants to lead the way in climate smart practices.

“To help improve the environment through voluntary measures, whether that’s E15 (because) we think E15 (and) renewable fuels is a way that we can reduce our carbon footprint and should be included in any (climate policy) going forward.”

Glessing stresses that soil health practices should be voluntary because he says a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work in Minnesota.
