A series of late-season storms as temperatures remain mild

A developing storm system over the central Plains will drift northeastward, crossing the Great Lakes region on Saturday. For the remainder of Friday into early Saturday, snow will spread from parts of Nebraska and South Dakota into Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The storm’s trailing cold front will clear the Atlantic Seaboard by early Sunday, following Eastern rainfall totals locally exceeding an inch. Farther west, a slow-moving Pacific storm will arrive during the weekend along the West Coast.

By early next week, precipitation may become heavy in parts of California. Drought-easing rain and snow should also begin to spread inland across the Great Basin and Intermountain West.

Across the central and eastern U.S., a surge of warmth will precede the arrival of the Western storm system early next week, with temperatures rising to 70°F or higher as far north as the central Plains and southwestern Corn Belt.
