Growth Energy CEO says global appetite for low-carbon fuels is growing

U.S. ethanol exports are gaining momentum near the close of the year.

The Renewable Fuels Association says exports jumped nearly 40 percent from September to October, fueled mostly by Canada’s continued strong demand as well as India and the Netherlands returning to the market.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor tells Brownfield there’s a growing global appetite for low-carbon fuels.

“But we’ve got some barriers, and if we can have free market access there’s just a lot of growth potential over the years for us on the export side of the business.”

She points to protective tariffs in Brazil, saying her hope is biofuels advocates get confirmed in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to address barriers.

U.S. ethanol exports through the first ten months of 2021 total nearly 977 million gallons, down 11 percent from the same period a year ago.

Skor made these comments during the National Association of Farm Broadcasting Convention last month in Kansas City, Missouri.
