Minnesota Industrial Hemp Association president calls for more regulatory certainty

The industrial hemp industry is looking for more regulatory certainty.

Minnesota Industrial Hemp Association president Dave Ladd tells Brownfield the reemerging sector features many players and regulators who all need to be on the same page.

“So there’s still a lot of progress to be made (and) I think it’s important to take a long-term or a pragmatic approach to ensure that we’re having a dialogue with elected officials. Whether it be department of agriculture here in Minnesota for example, FDA, members of Congress.”

He says growers and businesses are challenged by the uncertain regulatory environment.

“Whether it be state agencies, federal regulators (or) what have you, I think it’s important to have that conversation that this is what’s really happening out here on main street.”

Ladd suggests more can be done to ensure uniformity and conformity with federal hemp regulations passed in the 2018 Farm Bill.
