FARM Crates continue to reach elementary students

Michigan Farm Bureau’s most popular promotion and educational outreach tool throughout the pandemic will continue into 2022.

Julie Stephenson, chair of the state promotion and education committee, tells Brownfield FARM crates are a subscription box delivered to kindergarten to fifth-grade classrooms to help teach about agriculture.

“We really started that as a way to create some virtual connections with schools, but we’re surprisingly thrilled to start seeing some stronger relationships between our county farm bureaus and schools and classrooms around the state,” she says.

The crates this year have been delivered to nearly 5,000 classrooms in 50 counties once a month and include a lesson plan, storybook, farmer video, and activity-related supplies for students.  Stephenson says the subscriptions for the spring are still available and can be gifted through mid-January

Several innovative projects were also highlighted during the organization’s recent annual meeting through a P & E Showcase which Stephen says was intended to inspire idea-sharing throughout the state.
