A project to place beams on the Herbert Hoover Highway/Johnson County Road F-44 bridge over Interstate 80 near West Branch will require closing both directions of I-80 to traffic beginning on Wednesday night, Dec. 8, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Davenport construction office.

  • Westbound I-80 will be closed between mile markers 249 and 250 from 11 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8 until 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9
  • Eastbound I-80 will be closed from 11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 until 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10
  • Both directions of Herbert Hoover Highway/Johnson County Road F-44 over I-80 will be closed during the west- and eastbound closures of I-80 between mile markers 249 and 250

During these road closures, motorists will use a marked detour route using the off- and on-ramps.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
