John Deere employees reach deal, strike ends

John Deere employees have approved a third contract that ends a five-week labor strike.

The United Automobile Workers (UAW) says the new deal includes a $8,500 signing bonus, a 20 percent increase in wages over the life of the contract and 10 percent this year plus the cost of living.  The Union says the contract also includes three lump-sum payments and changes to retirement and performance benefits.

The deal was reached Friday and members voted Wednesday.  The strike began October 14 and affected more than 10,000 employees at 14 facilities.
