Chinn says beef plant is huge opportunity

Missouri’s Ag Director says a new state-of-the-art beef processing plant coming to the state will add much-needed value to Missouri farms and ranches. Chris Chinn tells Brownfield Ag News, “This is not just going to help the livestock industry but also our grain farmers as well because the more cattle that are fed out in Missouri, the more feed that will be consumed in the state.”

Chinn says many small meat processors have struggled to add value, “And this is going to be an opportunity if they choose to take it to add more value to their farm. For some farmers and ranchers it means they’re going to be able to bring that next generation back home to their family farm or ranch. We’re really excited about this opportunity for them.”

She says dairy cattle operations will also benefit from the Missouri facility when it’s up and running in 2024 and all livestock producers will save on the cost of travel.

Chinn toured the family-owned American Foods Group facility in Green Bay, Wisconsin earlier this year and the company chose eastern Missouri (Warren County) out of eight other states. AFG says the plant will create 1,300 jobs and process 1250 head a day.
