Gerlinde Maria Martinez

Gerlinde Maria Martinez, 70, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at her home.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Sharon Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 12, 2021, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Gerlinde’s honor to Pearl City Outreach to be used for the Pineridge South Dakota Indian Reservation and the Pearl City Outreach back to school for children in our area. Gerlinde was born on November 2, 1951, in Schweinfurt, Germany, the daughter of Ivan R. and Gertrude Boche Day. She married Ernesto E. Martinez Jr. on February 12, 2007, in Muscatine.

She worked at Seaboard Foods in Guymon, Oklahoma for eight years. She loved working at nursing homes with the elderly, as a CNA.

Gerlinde enjoyed going to bingo and going to church, where she was a lay minister for the Jesus Mission. She also volunteered for the Pearl City Outreach. Gerlinde loved her dog, Zoey, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Jose ‘Joe’ Cogdill and his significant other, Deb Roser, both of Muscatine, and Fredrick Cogdill of Vancouver, Washington; several grandchildren; her special grandchild, Nia Brockert and the rest of the Brockert family; She truly loved spending time with her great nephews, Carson, Hayden, Cameron, and Braxton, she loved them as if they were her own grandchildren; her siblings, Ivan L. Day and his wife, Donna, both of Davenport, Fred G. Day and his wife, Evie, of Muscatine, and Renate Day of Muscatine; several nieces and nephews; Ernie’s children, Esperanza Brockert and her husband, Tim, both of Muscatine, Jesus Martinez and his wife, Julia, of Muscatine, Anita Ramirez of Rock Island, Illinois, and Nancy Ash and her husband, Dean, of Muscatine; and she loved and will be deeply missed by Sharon Phillips and her children, Robin Wade, Gerianne Reichert, Jessica Phillips and Isaiah Phillips, who she was very close to.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernesto ‘Ernie’ E. Martinez Jr.; and grandparents.
