Biofuels group sees improvement in renewable energy positioning
Growth Energy says biofuels’ position in the clean energy sector is improving because of three actions taken this week.
Growth Energy says the EPA’s recent denial of one of the 30 pending small refinery exemptions, along with the Biden administration’s recently released net-zero emissions strategy and participation at the COP26 summit in Glasgow are all positive signs for biofuels’ place in the renewable energy sector.
Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says the Renewable Fuel Standard was strengthened Friday by the EPA’s decision to deny one of the pending small refinery exemptions. But says the RFS needs to include a path for nationwide E15 use.
She says the president’s emissions strategy released ahead of EPA’s decision shows any ‘effective’ climate strategy must recognize the role biofuels have in decarbonizing transportation.
Skor says the SRE’s have allowed refiners to avoid their statutory requirements to blend more, clean renewable fuels.
The biofuels group says it looks forward to working with the administration and Congress to ensure biofuels are utilized to meet climate commitments in the U.S. and elsewhere.
