Biden appoints new Wisconsin FSA & Rural Development directors

President Biden has appointed Wisconsin’s new Farm Service Agency Executive Director and a new Rural Development Director.

Eugene Schriefer is the new FSA Executive Director.  Schriefer has been a senior outreach specialist with the University of Wisconsin Extension and has been an ag educator working with farmers in Iowa County since 2009.  Schriefer is also a past grazing specialist with Southwest Badger Resource Conservation and Development and has worked with 4-H in Rusk and Columbia counties.

Former central Wisconsin legislator Julie Lassa has been appointed as Wisconsin’s Stare Rural Development Director at USDA.  Lassa served in both the State Assembly and Senate and on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.  She was also an author of the Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin, and Farm to School programs during her time in the Legislature.

Wisconsin Farmers Union President Darin Von Ruden praised both appointments, saying Schreifer has made significant contributions to the fabric of our agricultural community and Lassa brings a strong background in civic engagement and economic development, particularly promoting small business and local food.
