Farmer discusses ag equipment challenges

Supply chain issues are forcing many ag producers to change their farm equipment plans this year.

Western Indiana farmer Kevin Cox had planned to trade in his combine after this harvest.

“But, our dealer came out at the end of July and said ‘if you’re serious about doing that we need to do that now. I didn’t want to have to buy it until after the first of the year, but Deere announced a seven percent increase. A seven percent increase on my machine with no heads on it is $42,000,” he says.

Cox tells Brownfield he had to make the decision months earlier than planned.

“We were able to get in before that price increase hit,” he says. “It’s very challenging to make those kinds of decisions because you haven’t started harvesting yet (at that point) and you don’t know what kind of crop you have.”

Cox grows corn and soybeans in Clay and Parke counties.
