Dry harvest until a week ago

Northeast Iowa farmer Chris Edgington says harvest has been pretty dry until a week ago when they got an all-day rain of more than an inch, “The soils and the fields really kind of needed that going into winter even though we’re not quite done with harvest. But we’ll get things cranking back up again.”

He has a few days of corn harvest left and one field of soybeans when the crop gets down to the correct moisture, “There’s been some bad fields. I’ve heard of some real bad fields but considering the moisture we got. Corn is comparable to last year for a lot of guys. Soybeans, not so much.”

He says soybeans have had a lot of disease pressure this year. Edgington is president of the National Corn Growers Association. He farms at St. Ansgar, Iowa.
