Brad Bark elected new mayor; three incumbents ousted in Muscatine election

Political newcomer Brad Bark will be the new mayor of Muscatine, after winning in the 2021 City and School Election held Tuesday.

With all locations and absentees having been counted as of 8:58 p.m., Bark had 1,834 votes (53.85%) to incumbent Diana Broderson with 1,236 (35.29%). James Edgmond was third with 258 (7.57%) and Chad Bishop with 76 (2.23%).

The owner of a chiropractic clinic in Muscatine since 2011, Bark had never run for office until he challenged Broderson who was seeking a fourth term this November.

Two other incumbents on the city and school ballot were also defeated on Tuesday, according to unofficial results from the Muscatine County Auditor’s Office.
