ASTA submits comments on Climate-Smart Ag partnership

The head of the American Seed Trade Association, in comments submitted to the USDA on its Climate-Smart Ag partnership program, says quality seed plays a foundational role in climate-smart ag production and forestry programs.

Andy LaVigne says association members are committed to investing in research and development to help farmers with interlocking threats of climate change, water and temperature extremes, evolving diseases and insect pressures.

He says public-private collaborations are critical in advancing solutions to those threats.

LeVigne says the right policies can incentivize investments in plant breeding innovation – such as gene editing – while creating new jobs and market opportunities and boosting sustainability along the entire food value chain.
