Two more residents of Muscatine County have died from COVID-19, while new weekly cases of the coronavirus dropped to their lowest level in two month.
“We are moving in the right direction to put the pandemic behind us,” said Muscatine Mayor Diana Broderson in a Facebook post. “Let’s not let down our guard as we go into the winter months.”
According to data published Friday morning on the State of Iowa’s COVID-19 dashboard, the death toll in Muscatine has increased to 115 since the pandemic began.
There were just 50 positive tests out 915 administered (5 percent positive rate) between Oct. 23 and 29 for a total of 6,856 cases.
That’s the fewest new cases since August 6 when 43 were reported, and it’s the third straight week the new case count has been below 100.
Across Iowa, 7,551 positive tests were recorded, 8 percent of tests administered, for a total of 522,421. Another 117 Iowa residents died, bringing the statewide death toll to 6,965.
A total of 1.7 million residents have completed their vaccination series in Iowa, and 22,730 residents of Muscatine County.
