Rain stalls bumper crop corn harvest for Nebraska farmer
Mother Nature is delaying the end of harvest for South-Central Nebraska grower Randy Uhrmacher.
“This wouldn’t take us long to get it knocked out, but today we’re sitting here under a rain delay.”
Much of Nebraska has received anywhere from a half-inch to four inches of rain since Sunday and more moisture is forecast through Wednesday night.
He tells Brownfield he received a half-inch of rain Tuesday night with more expected and it’s delayed wrapping up harvest for a bumper crop. “I hate to even say but I’m going to say it’s nothing uncommon for whole fields including corners to be above that 250 neighborhood and that includes dryland corners and all that under whole field situations and pivots.”
But, he says soybeans have not met his expectations. “It didn’t set any records for us,” Uhrmacher says. “It was kind of disappointing for us listening to people say well they had a record bean harvest, but they may not have had a record bean harvest when we set our records.”
He grows corn and soybeans near Hastings in Adams County and says it will take about three days to wrap up harvest with dry conditions.
