MO water infrastructure improvements coming

USDA’s Rural Development office has recently announced investments totaling more than $18 million in Missouri water infrastructure.

David Cheek with USDA said the largest project, an additional $15 million to construct a regional water distribution system in northwest Missouri, will supply drinking water to the St. Joseph area.

“Once completed, the project will serve a little bit more than 11,000 rural Missourians in the cities of Cameron and Maysville,” Cheek said. “With the capability to expand to additional communities in the future.”

He said projects like this across the state also boost rural economy.

“Without reliable access to dependable water sources, continued economic development in these communities could be stifled in the future,” he said. “Modern infrastructure is necessary to attract and retain families and businesses in Missouri’s small towns.”

Cheek said potential applicants can visit USDA Rural Development’s web page or reach the office by phone.
