FCC distributes $500 million for rural broadband

The Federal Communications Commission has awarded more than $500 million to 19 states for rural broadband expansion.

This is the third round of funding through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund which has awarded more than $1 billion for new broadband deployment.

States awarded include Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin, with Michigan and Georgia receiving the largest amounts in this round.

The Commission says it did deny funding to LDT Broadband for Iowa, Nebraska, and North Dakota after they failed to meet program requirements as work continues to ensure funding is delivered in underserved areas that need broadband access.
