Kanas Corn pressing Biden administration on campaign promises for ethanol
The head of the Kansas Corn Growers Association says he wants the Biden administration to follow through on campaign promises to support ethanol.
Greg Krissek tells Brownfield there’s uncertainty in the industry because Renewable Volume Obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard haven’t been set. “What are the RVO’s going to be like for ’21-22 but the talk that they might go back to ’20 and we’re very concerned the message that signals.”
The Environmental Protection Agency hasn’t released RVO requirements yet as a November 30, 2021 deadlines approaches.
He says Congress and the administration have the opportunity to help farmers by passing the Next Generation Fuels Act. “It would really set up a system pattern for our liquid fuels, which we believe will be a big part of our transportation fuels for the next 30-40 years and that could be opportunities for utilizing ethanol for up to E30.”
Krissek says increasing the use of ethanol would lower high oil and energy prices. “Ethanol is providing a cleaner burning fuel at a lower price and its really higher performing for your engine so to us it’s a no brainer why we don’t adopt it more so that’s why we’re going to put as much pressure on the Biden administration as we can.”
Krissek spoke with Brownfield at last week’s Kansas City Agribusiness Luncheon in Olathe.
