No COVID deaths in Muscatine County this week, new cases lowest in two months

New coronavirus cases dropped to their lowest level since August and there were no deaths in Muscatine County while the state of Iowa surpassed the half-million case mark over the past week.

According to data published Friday morning on the State of Iowa’s COVID-19 dashboard, there were 67 positive tests between Oct. 8 and 15 for a total of 6,733 since the pandemic began. That follows seven straight weeks of new weekly cases of 100 or more in Muscatine County.

The rate of positive tests dropped to 7 percent this past week, and the death toll in Muscatine remained at 113.

8,887 positive cases and 94 additional deaths statewide were reported in the last seven days, bringing the total to 507,525 cases and 6,748 deaths. The statewide test positivity rate was 9 percent.

Through Friday morning, 22,448 Muscatine County residents and 1,700,028 Iowa residents have completed their vaccine regiment of either one or two doses.

Muscatine County Public Health, 1609 Cedar Street, is conducting walk-in vaccination clinics on Wednesdays and Fridays. Call them with questions 563-263-0122.

You can also walk in most pharmacies without an appointment and get a vaccine at any time that is convenient for you.

If you are severely immuno-compromised, you can get a booster shot now. If you are homebound or need transportation assistance to get the vaccine, call Senior Resources at 563-263-7292.

Vaccination Clinic to be held at Musserville UMC on Oct. 21

Expanding vaccine availability to local places of interest makes getting the vaccine easier for members of the community, and the United Way of Muscatine is working with Muscatine County Public Health to ensure the vaccine is available to all.

A COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be held from 3-6 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 21) at the Musserville United Methodist Church, at 1001 Oregon Street, Muscatine. Volunteers from the United Way of Muscatine will be assisting Muscatine County Public Health staff to help the clinic run smoothly.

Dinner will be provided by Izalco. Those receiving their first COVID-19 vaccination will receive a $25 gift card. Transportation is available and those that need a ride can contact Nichole Sorgenfrey at the United Way of Muscatine by calling 563-263-5963.

Vaccines are free and anyone can walk-in to receive a vaccination.  Pfizer and Moderna will all be available at the clinic.  Insurance is not needed but please bring your identification (ID) with you.  Minors (ages 12-17) must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
