Global index shows increased world hunger

The 10th annual Global Food Security Index shows an overall decline in food security.

The 2021 report by Economic Impact, sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, measures the drivers of food security in 113 countries based on affordability, availability, quality and safety, in addition to natural resources and resilience.

The COVID-19 pandemic, intensifying climate related factors, price volatility of food and lack of government agricultural investment are among the factors for the increase in global hunger.

The report shows while countries have made big strides in addressing food insecurity over the past 10 years, food systems remain vulnerable to economic, climate and geopolitical shocks.
