USDA makes modest changes to cotton, rice

The USDA has trimmed its production outlook for cotton, while slightly increasing the production for rice.

Upland cotton production is expected to be 17.651 million bales, down 858,000 from September, but up 3.59 million from 2020, with an average yield of 865 pounds per acre, 25 less than last month, but 30 more than last year.

Rice is pegged at 190.546 million hundredweight, a 47,000 above a month ago, but 37.037 million below a year ago, with an average yield of 7,625 pounds per acre, modestly higher than both the previous month and the year before.

These numbers will likely change, with harvest ongoing.

The USDA tightened the domestic balance sheets for both cotton and rice.

The USDA’s next set of supply, demand, and production numbers is out Tuesday, November 9th at Noon Eastern/11 Central.
