Illinois corn harvest over halfway complete
Illinois farmers made steady progress in the fields last week although scattered rain caused brief delays for some.
Corn harvest passed the half-way mark at 55% complete compared to 41% the week before and 46% on average. As of Sunday, the USDA rates the crop 70% good to excellent.
Soybean harvest is 43% complete compared to 32% the week before and 45% on average. Illinois soybeans are rated 71% good to excellent.
Winter wheat planting is falling behind years past with 21% complete up from 12% the week before, but 23 percentage points behind 2020 and 11 points behind the five-year average. Seven percent has emerged, in line with average.
