Tar spot spreading east

A Northwest Ohio farmer is on the cusp of harvest and remains concerned about tar spot damage as it continues to spread throughout the Great Lakes region.

Brian Herringshaw tells Brownfield tar spot in his area the past few years has been spotty but not this season.

“I know in northeast Indiana there’s been a lot of pressure and this year it really took us by storm,” he says.  “I think the 20 or so counties in northwest Ohio just hammered.”

Herringshaw says when the crop was silking the disease wasn’t prevalent, and unfortunately, now it would only take a strong wind event to knock it over.

Brownfield interviewed Herringshaw during the Ohio Farm Bureau’s Washington Leadership Experience.
