U.S. Energy Secretary: “increase in production” coming for biofuels

U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm tells Brownfield the biofuel market will be growing as infrastructure is built to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuels.

“Airplanes and ships are so much heavier than vehicles, they’re much harder to run on batteries,” she said. “So, the President’s Build Back Better Agenda contemplates improved tax credits for biofuels, including Sustainable Aviation Fuels.”

Granholm said producing the targeted 35 billion gallons of SAF’s a year by 2050 means building more than 200 new biofuel refineries, boosting the ethanol market for farmers.

“It means jobs, it means an increase in production, [which], obviously, keeps them in business.”

She said billions of dollars will be going towards climate research development projects including biofuels as part of President Biden’s Build Back Better plan. Granholm calls the commitment an ‘exciting opportunity’ for income and jobs in agriculture.
