Biofuels group concerned after rumored low RVOs

A biofuels group is concerned about where the EPA will set renewable volume obligations for upcoming years after a possible leaked document showed they would be lower than 2019 levels.

Growth Energy’s John Fuher tells Brownfield the EPA said the rumored numbers – sent to some media outlets – are fake and he’s hoping the agency sets higher blending targets for 2021/2022.

“Between now and when this is released, we’re going to try and ensure what’s in this leaked proposal, one, isn’t true,” he said. “And if it is true, it’s changed.”

Growth Energy sent a letter to President Biden earlier in the week urging the administration to uphold the Renewable Fuel Standard by setting ‘strong’ volume obligations.

“I think you’re just going to see a lot of engagement with the administration on what this looks like,” Fuher said. “And I think, secondly, you’re going to – at some point – see EPA release this.”

Fuher expects EPA to release its Renewable Volume Obligations as early as next week.
