Iowa cooperative victim of ransomware attack

A grain cooperative with more than 60 locations across Iowa says it is the victim of a ransomware attack.

New Coop issued a statement Monday saying it recently identified a cybersecurity incident that impacted some of the company’s devices and systems.

The cooperative says it was successful in proactively taking their systems offline to contain the threat.

New Coop, based in Ft. Dodge, contacted law enforcement and is working with data security experts to investigate and remedy the situation.

Bloomberg reports a ransomware group called BlackMatter posted on its website it stole New Cooperative’s financial information, human resources data, and development information and source code for its SoilMap product.

BlackMatter is reportedly demanding a $5.9 million ransom.
