Farmer anticipates average- to above-average crops

North Central Ohio farmer Steve Reinhard says he’s anticipating an average to above average crop.

“I think there are some places where the crops will exceed our expectations, but one of the things we’re seeing this year is we do have a little bit more water damage,” he says. “The early wet May that we had really stunted some soybean plants and they recovered some lately, but I don’t know if they’re going to have a good pod fill.”

He tells Brownfield he’s been scouting for fall armyworms and crop diseases.

“We’re fighting army worms really bad and that’s something that’s come up lately,” he says. “We also recently scouted for tar spot, so I know we have some tar spot moving into the area.”

Reinhard grows corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay in Bucyrus, Ohio.
