Tell us about the services your station provides.

We are a full service independently owned radio station broadcasting to the Louisville Metro area and Southern Indiana, collectively known as Kentuckiana. We provide daily local and state news, local and state ag news, local sports and weather updates every 20 minutes. We provide nearly 10 times the FCC required local content each month and are deeply rooted in the local communities we serve. We have a presence on social media and regularly have 50,000 plus following us for news and sports information. We also have a successful website that generates over a half-million visits per month. We are streaming certain portions of the days programming – including our morning show and sports events – to Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. During the pandemic and as local sports returned, we had over 2 million people who watched our programming via streaming.

Tell us about your community involvement.

Our stations have earned the Indiana Broadcaster’s Association Community Service Award five years in a row (2016-2021), won the Business of the Year Award from a local chamber of commerce in 2016 and I won Citizen of the Year in 2018. WSLM 1220 AM first aired in 1953 and my father, Don Martin, earned several community awards over the years. We’ve been involved in promoting fairs, festivals, and have established fundraising activities that have generated over $750,000 over the years to local children and their families and for cancer research.

Tell us about any involvement you have, or coverage you provide, to any agriculture related groups.

We partner with local county fairs to recognize 4H youth every year and award a Brownfield Belt Buckle as well as participate in other aspects of each fair, including broadcasting events live. We have reported ag and farm news on WSLM since 1952 and have earned state and national honors for our farm programming.

Anything else you would like to tell us?

WSLM was recognized by the Motor Racing Network in 2019 for being one of 12 radio stations in the US which have broadcasted NASCAR races for 50 years. Also, we’re one of five stations to have been broadcasting INDY racing events since 1952. We will soon celebrate 70 years of working with our communities across the Kentuckiana area to keep them informed, entertained and up to date on the latest news, sports and weather information.
