Field activities ahead of schedule

Farmers continued to harvest corn silage, dry beans, and sugarbeets through intermittent showers across Michigan last week.

Corn condition is rated 72 percent of the crop rated in good to excellent condition. Ninety-six percent is in the dough stage, 70 percent is dented, 24 percent is mature and corn silage harvest is 31 percent complete.

Soybeans are 67 percent good to excellent, with 51 percent dropping leaves.  Twelve percent of sugarbeets and six percent of dry beans have been harvested.

Harvest is also underway for sweet corn, pumpkins, late season peaches, and apples while winding down for forages.
