70% of Ohio corn and soybeans are rated good to excellent

The USDA says hot and dry conditions helped move crops along last week in Ohio.

Seventy percent of the state’s corn crop is in good to excellent condition. Ninety-nine percent of corn is in the dough stage, 84 percent is dented, and 28 percent is mature.

Seventy percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent. Ninety-six percent are setting pods with 30 percent dropping leaves.

Hay and pastures needed more precipitation for regrowth, and fall army worms caused problems in some hay fields.
