7 Minnesota counties designated disaster areas because of drought

USDA has designated seven Minnesota counties as primary natural disaster areas because of drought.

The declaration allows producers in Big Stone, Brown, Carlton, Murray, Nicollet, Sibley, and Swift counties access to emergency credit to meet various recovery needs like the replacement of equipment and livestock.

The loans can also be used to reorganize a farming operation or refinance certain debts.

Local Farm Service Agencies will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.

More than 20 contiguous counties are also eligible.
