Rain helps crops in Indiana as harvest nears

The USDA says recent rains helped replenish soil moisture levels and improve crop conditions in Indiana last week.

Seventy-one percent of the state’s corn crop is in good to excellent condition. Ninety-six percent is in the dough stage, 72 percent is dented, and 15 percent is mature.

Sixty-seven percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent with 97 percent setting pods and 18 percent dropping leaves.
