American Farm Bureau sends supply chain recommendations to Vilsack

American Farm Bureau has written Ag Secretary Vilsack about issues facing the U.S. supply chain.

Vice president for public affairs Sam Kieffer says AFBF has come up with recommendations for USDA to consider following President Biden’s executive order on America’s supply chains.

“The issues in summary focus on processing capacity for meat, (availability of) agricultural inputs (like) fertilizer and crop protectants, and trade.”

He tells Brownfield the letter to USDA requests that the administration work to resolve outstanding issues with China.

“Because if we aren’t able to be in a position to continue trade with China, losing a market will only create additional bottlenecks and more turmoil in a market when we’re already trying to figure out how to smooth over some of the wrinkles in the supply chain.”

Another issue highlighted by Farm Bureau is labor.  President Zippy Duvall says USDA should work across the federal government to streamline the application process and ensure timely arrivals of guestworkers.
