Midwest Democrats want biofuels included in reconciliation
A group of Midwestern Democrats led by Minnesota U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar is urging House and Senate leadership to include biofuels in the budget reconciliation process.
In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, the group says providing additional market access for higher blends of low carbon fuels in reconciliation will create jobs in rural communities, lower the price of fuel for consumers, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and most importantly decrease carbon emissions.
The legislators say there’s a climate crisis that needs to be confronted with a sense of urgency. Their goal is to decarbonize the transportation sector through an all-hands-on-deck approach that includes investment and incentives for both electric vehicles and homegrown renewable fuels.
Specific legislation mentioned in the letter includes the Biofuel Infrastructure and Agricultural Product Market Expansion Act, Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, and Clean Fuels Vehicles Act.
Among the Congressmen and women who signed onto the letter are Tammy Duckworth, Dick Durbin, and Cheri Bustos of Illinois, Minnesota’s Tina Smith and Angie Craig, Tammy Baldwin and Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, and Cindy Axne of Iowa.
