National Direct barrows and gilts higher

The direct cash cattle trade is slow to start Tuesday. Not much is expected for at least another day. Early asking prices are about $125.00 plus in the South but have not been established yet in the North.

Boxed beef is higher on light to moderate movement. Choice boxes are 36 cents higher at $343.14. Selects are $2.06 higher at $314.61.

At the Joplin Regional Stockyards feeder cattle auction Monday, they had 4,900 head. Compared to last week, feeder steers traded steady to $4.00 higher with feeder heifers trading steady to $3.00 higher on good demand.

Medium and large frame #1 steers:
118 head, weighing 555 to 596 pounds, brought $170.00 to $186.00.
419 head, weighing 700 to 749 pounds, brought $153.00 to $166.50.

Medium and large frame #1 heifers:
278 head, weighing 500 to 549 pounds, brought $150.00 to $165.50,
373 head, weighing 653 to 691 pounds, brought $149.35 to $158.25.

At the Sioux Falls Regional Cattle Auction Monday, they had 1,950 head, mostly feeder cattle. Compared to last week the market was unevenly steady, 800 to 900-pound steers $2.00 to $4.00 higher and 800 to 850-pound heifers $3.00 to $5.00 higher. Demand was good. Demand for the heavier weights was very good. Calves under 450 pounds were in very good demand as well.

Medium and large frame #1 steers:
146 head, weighing 804 to 828 pounds, brought $156.00 to $165.00.
339 head, weighing 908 to 920 pounds, brought $151.50 to $155.25

Medium and large frame #1 heifers:
86 head, weighing 685 to 692 pounds, brought $151.00 to $162.50
120 head, weighing 800 to 839 pounds, brought $143.00 to $151.50.

National Direct barrows and gilts are $1.21 higher, ranging from $88.00 to $96.00, hitting a weighted average of $91.48.

Boars: under 300 lbs.   $45.00-$50.00
           over 300 lbs.   $10.00-$12.00

Barrows and gilts were $1.00 to $2.00 lower, with moderate to good demand for moderate to heavy offerings.
IL direct barrows and gilts: US 220-290 lbs. at $56.00 to $65.00.

The pork carcass cutout price is $2.43 higher, at $112.15.
