Livestock hauler exemption extended

A special exemption from hours-of-service requirements for truckers hauling livestock has been extended.  The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced the extension Tuesday.

Livestock haulers have had the exemption since early in the COVID-19 pandemic.  The exemption was pushed by livestock groups including the NCBA, which pointed out livestock haulers cannot idle or unload trucks when driving hours run out without jeopardizing animal health and welfare.

NCBA’s Government Affairs Director Allison Rivera issued a statement saying the organization is grateful for the extension, and that NCBA will continue to work toward additional, more permanent flexibility under the hours-of-service regulations.
